BEYOND THE NORMS

"Just take better notes." "Use flashcards." "Make a study guide." "Watch the video again." That advice isn’t necessarily wrong. It’s just incomplete. Learning is not one-size-fits-all because our brains do not all process information the same way. Some students grasp new ideas best when they see patterns, symbols, and systems. Others need pictures, maps, models, or spatial layouts. And some make sense of the world through words, explanations, reading, discussion, or writing.

Parenting a neurodivergent child often comes with a strange combination of experiences. Your child may explain black holes in impressive detail but forget that shoes are required to leave the house. They may understand an assignment perfectly but still be unable to begin it. They may hold everything together at school and then collapse over the tragically incorrect shape of a chicken nugget at home. When you’re supporting a child with ADHD, AuDHD, giftedness, or twice-excepti

Most executive-function advice is technically correct. Break the task down. Use a planner. Set a timer. Get enough sleep. Excellent. Gold star. Unfortunately, a strategy can be perfectly reasonable and still be completely useless if it solves the wrong problem. Executive functions are the mental processes that help us direct our brains and behavior toward a goal. They help us begin, focus, remember what we are doing, manage time, regulate emotions, resist distractions, adjust

When it comes to understanding how your brain works, traditional cognitive assessments often focus on what you struggle with. But what if we flipped the script? What if instead of spotlighting weaknesses, we celebrated your strengths? That’s exactly what strengths-based cognitive assessments aim to do. They offer a fresh, empowering perspective that can change how you see yourself and your potential. Imagine walking into an assessment feeling confident, knowing the focus will

Find the Executive Function Bottleneck Before You Pick the Tool If you have ever bought a planner, made a checklist, color-coded your life, downloaded three productivity apps, and still ended up staring at the same unfinished task like it personally betrayed you, you are not broken. You may be trying to solve the wrong executive function problem. If another planner, checklist, timer, or color-coded system could have fixed the problem, it probably would have worked by now. Th

When it comes to understanding yourself or someone you care about, focusing on strengths rather than weaknesses can be a game-changer. Imagine a world where your unique talents and abilities are the starting point for growth, not the afterthought. That’s exactly what strength-based assessment tools offer. They help you discover what you do best and how to build on it, especially if you navigate the world with ADHD, AuDHD, giftedness, or twice-exceptional (2e) needs. Let’s div

Ever feel like your brain needs a personal trainer? That's where honing your executive functions (EFs) comes in. These are the skills that help us plan our day, adapt to curveballs, and stay focused. They're like our mental Swiss Army knife, and they're key to our success and well-being. Boosting your EFs isn't about hitting the books. It's about practice and balance. It's like going to the gym for your brain. And just like physical training, you need to mix it up to see resu
